Why Mulch is important

When mulch and soil conditioners are applied to the soil, fungi and soil bacteria begin breaking down organic matter into individual components, releasing nutrients. Moisture and air temperature regulate this release as well as controlling the plant growth, so the two go hand in hand. Mulches and soil conditioners are probably best described as ‘slow release fertilisers’. The advantage of mulching garden beds is that a layer 50mm thick will protect them from wind erosion and evaporation in summer. In the colder months, mulches act as a temperature buffer, maintaining soil warmth and promoting healthy growth. Mulching also helps control weed growth.

Our Mulch Range

Black Mulch

A blend of crushed and composted tree cuttings and screened peat, this budget mulch is the ideal choice for any gardener. The rich dark colour provides an excellent contrast to highlight the plants in your garden as well as providing all the benefits of mulch.
