Why mulch is important

When mulch and soil conditioners are applied to the soil, fungi and soil bacteria begin breaking down organic matter into individual components, releasing nutrients. Moisture and air temperature regulate this release as well as controlling the plant growth, so the two go hand in hand. Mulches and soil conditioners are probably best described as ‘slow release fertilisers’. The advantage of mulching garden beds is that a layer 50mm thick will protect them from wind erosion and evaporation in summer. In the colder months, mulches act as a temperature buffer, maintaining soil warmth and promoting healthy growth. Mulching also helps control weed growth.
Budget Black Mulch:
A blend of crushed and composted tree cuttings and screened peat, this budget mulch is the ideal choice for any gardener. The rich dark colour provides an excellent contrast to highlight the plants in your garden as well as providing all the benefits of mulch.
Jungle Mulch:
This mulch is a blend of crushed and screened composted green waste and peat, with crushed pine slithers, wood fines, screened black soil and manures blended together. This mulch has more fines, which gives it higher moisture-retaining qualities and a smooth texture finish. This black mulch is suitable in all areas of the house garden.
Karri and Peat Mulch:
Made from crushed jarrah and karri bark, and blended with peat, this mulch is suitable for any garden and is a popular choice with our customers. A premium black garden mulch, it’s also ideal for using in herb, rose and general garden areas.
Pine Bark Mulch:
This natural brown mulch holds its colour so is ideal for laying around native plants and trees, and for making paths. Made from crushed and screened pine bark, this mulch is suitable for the home gardens, commercial buildings, road verges and more – perfect for almost every situation.
Crushed and Screened Pine Bark:
This mulch is a red colour and is suitable for home gardens, commercial buildings and road verges – perfect for almost any space.
Marri Woodchip Bark:
Choose this brown, woody mulch for your garden to create a natural and well-tended looking space.
Red Woodchip Mulch:
Why not add a splash of colour to your outside space with this gorgeous red mulch? Crushed bark and wood waste are blended and then coloured, and as the colourants used are highly resistant to UV fading, they don’t wash off in the elements.
The advantages of using woodchip
Woodchip mulch is a recycled product that consists of pieces of ground-up wood or bark. Woodchip mulch can increase nutrient levels in the soil, and any draw-down occurs only at the interface between soil and mulch. For shallow-rooted plants such as veggies, woodchip may inhibit plant growth to an extent. But for deep rooted plants such as fruit trees and mature trees, it is a long-term mulching ingredient that offers positive results.
